Pilgramages were central to Medieval Christianity and including those to the distant Holy Land around Jerusalem. They have also influenced the West’s foreign relations with those residing in the area, esp. during the crusades.

According to the website, what were the motivations for Medieval Europeans to want to go on a pilgramage to the Middle East and elsewhere? What were some of the difficulties pilgrims faced organizing and conducting their journey? What does the nature of these pilgramages tell us about Medieval Western culture and Christianity?
