Answer 1 – At its very beginning President Roosevelt’s Address shines with the light of hope. He speaks of the ability of the Nation to endure and not only that but to revive. He then brings out an aggressive tone against “fear” with his famous words, ” we have nothing to fear but fear itself.” Which is an aggressive attack against the feeling of hopelessness. He the moves on to address the reality of the situation and the state that the nation has found itself in. He asserts that there is not a lack in substance but the way people have handled that substance. He then goes on to declare that the problem is not unsolvable and it is in the grasp of the people to change it. “Nature still offers her bounty…” in the midst of this darkness he reminds them that they have a lot to be thankful for. He gives a speech and tone of action. A call to action to all Americans and a promise for Government assistance. He declares that we must all be “hand in hand” in this situation. Not only does he promise action and restoration from the troubles at hand but he gives the nation assurance that safeguards will be created to ensure this doesn’t happen again. This will be done by supervising all banking, credits and investments and provision for a sound currency. In all of this, my initial impression is that President Roosevelt is coming at this economic problem head on. He gives hope in a dark time and gives me assurance that he is a man of action. The kind of man I could depend on. He illuminates all of the problems that we face but then he attacks them. With his presidency will come the assurance that he will come at this problem with the full power of the government. Just as the government is fully invested in war they will be fully invested in the economic problems of society. From the businesses to the citizens. He promises that the government will even provide jobs. President Roosevelt is aware of all of the situations and in this speech he wants people to feel that he is invested in them and not unaware of their suffering.

Answer 2 – Franklin D. Roosevelt brought a new beginning to what the world knew as a stock market catastrophe. After Herbert Hoover left office the United States needed a sense of hope and something to work for. In FDR’s inaugural address he spoke with confidence and hopefulness that he would be able to provide work for the American people and get the country out of the economic decline that it had been in. At the beginning of his speech, I thought FDR’s tone was almost annoyed at the fact that nothing had really been done about the problem America had been facing. This makes sense to me because the majority of the citizens were also annoyed that nothing had been done to fix the situation. As the speech went on FDR sounded more confident and hopeful that he would get America back to a working order. The message that I thought he was trying to send to the American people was that he would do whatever he needed to help them get back to a more manageable life. That he was going to use governmental interventions in order to make sure that citizens would be able to work and live a more relaxed lifestyle. For those who have been struggling to not struggle as more and get on their feet. FDR’s speech was the start of a new world that America faced after the stock market crash. A speech that lead to great victory and accomplishment.
